One day excursions (duration 7-8 hours)

We depart around 10.00 a.m. from Pothia harbor and we sail to two wonderful nearby islands, Plati and Pserimos, with stops for swimming and relaxing. Return to Pothia about 17.30 p.m.

The maximum capacity of guests is nine persons with the price varying from 70 euros (LS) to 80 euros (HS) per person.

There is a 10 euros discount for children less than 10 years old and no fee is required for babies less than one year of age.

The yacht is offered for total hiring by a group. In case there are less than five persons on board there is a minimum amount of 400 euros required for an excursion to take place. In the day are included sandwiches, fruit, biscuits, soft drinks, coffee & tea.

Multi day cruises

The duration may be from two days up to a week, depending on the guest’s desires.
The yacht has three double cabins, two bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen with fridge, stove and a comfortable living room.

She can accommodate up to four guests in two of the cabins, one being reserved for the captain. According to the number of days, the weather conditions and the guests’ wishes, we can explore the coasts of Dodecanese with stop every evening at a different picturesque island such as Lipsi, Leros, Patmos and Arki.

Eirini (Irene) ERGA is a certified RYA Yachtmaster offshore with sailing experience since 2014. She is originated from Kalymnos and speaks fluently English and French.

The Archaeological Museum of Kalymnos is located at Pothia, at the district of Agia Triadha and was inaugurated in the year 2009 Β .The museum building was constructed by the Ministry of Culture, in a property donated for the purpose by the Solonian Home for the Elderly in 1997. In the same property is located the Vouvalis Mansion, an exceptional example of 19th century urban architecture, where a small part of the Prehistoric and Byzantine collection were previously housed.

The exhibits include the Lady of Kalymnos, antiquities from the Prehistoric to the Post-Byzantine era, chronically presenting the history of the island over millennia. At the same time, the large number of sculptural votive offerings in the sanctuary of Delian Apollo as well as a huge cult statue of Asclepius impress every visitor.

Maritime Museum

The Maritime Museum of Kalymnos was founded in 1994 and it is located in the coastal zone of Pothia, in the building of the former Vouvaleios Technical School, next to the Town Hall. At the museum you can see and learn about the island’s sponge diving tradition, history and methods of sponge fishing .Also if you visit the museum you’ll see many artifacts from the wrecks of ancient ships as well as articles on sponge diving and sponge treatment.

The exhibition is divided in three different parts where the visitors have the opportunity to see objects with reference to sponge diving profession and a great number of exhibits related to sponge- fishing as well as the elaboration of sponges.

Museum of marine life and findings

It is located at the coastal village Vlichadia. It is a private museum, a life’s work of Valsamidis brothers, who were born and live in Kalymnos, with exhibits related to sponge fishing, a big variety of sea plants and sea animals and a collection of trade amphorae and other finds from ancient shipwrecks.Β 

It is one of the richest private collections in Greece and they needed over forty (40) years to collect these findings. Various kinds of sponges, corals, shells, fish, strange sea creatures, sponge diving equipment, World War II findings, pictures, documents, coins, ancient amphora and even an ancient wreck, are included in their collection.

Traditional Kalymnian House

It is located in the southern outskirts of the monastery of Agioi Pantes and Agios Savvas 1, 5 km from Pothia Town, in the region Vothynoi. It is a private Folklore Museum established by Mrs Faneromeni Skylla with objects of popular culture and household items of old houses.

The bay is so long and narrow, it looks like a fjord full of fishing boats and excursion boats.
You can do many activities such as sea kayaking, excursions to the nearby beaches, fishing and climbing.

The locals have made their living for centuries by diving for sponges in the Mediterranean. These two factors worked together to produce a very good infrastructure, which makes scuba diving in Kalymnos a memorable and safe experience.

Above the harbour of Pothia, you’ll find the magnificent temple dedicated to Agios Savvas the miraculous, which features paintings of exceptional quality and value.

The skull of Agios Savvas is solemnly kept inside the temple, where guests can pray.

The temple was constructed in a breathtaking location, with a panoramic view of the Pothia Valley and the sea to the east. The natural beauty of the surrounding area, along with the peace and quiet of the monastery, results in a courtyard unlike any other.

Monastery of Panagia Kyra Psili

The Panagia Kyra Psili Monastery, located in a mountain cave to the north of Vathys, stands out. Tradition holds that a Kalymnian who had left the island and rejected Christianity constructed the monastery there after coming to terms with his heritage and finding God anew.

Another tale has it that a shepherd who was searching for his missing goat stumbled onto the cave. He entered the cave and attempted to transport a Virgin Mary image back to his community. When I got halfway through, the vision would always start to make its way back to the cave

In addition to their geological significance, several of these locations also hold archaeological significance since they were either occupied or used as religious sites in the past.

There are a total of sixteen caverns to explore, although only three—the Kefalas cave, the Epta Parthenon (Seven Virgins) cave, and the Skalia cave—deserve any sort of attention.

The Castle of Chora, also known as the Great Castle or Paleochora, is a popular tourist attraction on Kalymnos. Located on the spot where ancient Pothia once stood, this city is often referred to as Kalymnos’ mediaeval capital. In 1495, the castle is completed and remains inhabited until 1812.

From the middle of the 18th century onward, the threats that originally drove the population inside the castle (such as pirates) began to dwindle, and thus people began settling in new homes in Chora, outside the castle walls.

The Byzantine fortress is still beautiful, even though it is now abandoned. The 230 steps from Pothia go up to its gate, which previously had a wooden bridge that could be moved back and forth. Inside the walls of the castle are not only multiple dwellings, but also two big water tanks, a stone mill pond, a portion of a stone roller crushing olives, and ten churches, all of which have been remarkably well kept.

Pera Castle or Castle of Chrisocheria

The Pera Castle, also known as the Castle of Chrisocheria, is a major tourist attraction located halfway between the towns of Chora and Pothia. The castle’s location, atop a natural hill, gave the Kalymnians a commanding vantage point over Chora and Pothia.

The castle was established under the Knights’ rule. In fact, the citizens were forced to build a new castle which would be used as a house for the governor of Kalymnos, Kos, Leros and Nisyros islands, in order to protect themselves from the rising pirate incursions.

The castle’s few facilities, including a mineral and constructed food store and chapels dedicated to St. George and the Virgin Mary, are kept in good shape.

Numerous climbers from all over the world visit Kalymnos because of the excellent quality and variety of the rock formations, quick and easy access to the climbing areas, clear marking of the starting points leading to the climbing areas, close proximity of the areas, paths offering stunning views of the island’s stunning beaches and the crystal-clear Aegean Sea, and, of course, the mild climate that prevails on the island throughout the year.

Although climbers who have visited other top climbing locations acknowledge that Kalymnos’ rock is similar to that of Thailand, they believe Kalymnos offers a superior experience and is a more comprehensive travel destination.

The history of Kalymnos climbing

After the arrival of renowned Italian climbers who spent their holidays on the island in the late 1990s, climbing in Kalymnos started to become a sport. They made the decision to return as soon as possible to establish routes after seeing the seemingly endless possibilities for climbing on the Kalymnian rocks with their trained eyes.

The opening of the initial routes presented some challenges for the Italian climbers because they were detained because the villagers, who at the time had little knowledge of climbing operations, thought they were trying to steal boulders and stalactites from Kalymnos.
